This is our March DIAD -  a return visit to Youth for Troops in Anthem.

The organization is in desperate need for any of the following items:

TRAVEL SIZE--foot powder, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, mouth wash, toothpaste, deodorant, facial tissue, disposable razors, playing cards, games, puzzle/game books, unscented baby wipes.  Please bring with you to the project.  .

Our speaker will be Maria Laughner, Director of Economic Development for Peoria.

Our speaker of the day is Machel (pronounced Michelle) Considine from the District speaking to us about Youth Exchange.

Our monthly board meeting has been moved to April 9--all members are welcome to attend.

Our speakers will be Roman Saldutti, Senior Vice President of PNc Bank, and Nicole Folmar will be speaking to us on the topic of "What I Wish I Knew Before I Started My Business.....Lessons From a Founder Turned Banker!"

Southeast corner of 52nd Avenue and West Montebello Avenue--Parking is just south of the building.  It's limited, so carpooling is recommended when possible.  

Tyrone has to pre-register us--No walk-ins, since sessions are limited to 20 total volunteers--Phoenix West has 10 slots!!!  We are asked to arrive 15 minutes early as volunteer tasks start promptly at 12PM. 

Tasks may include sorting donated goods, reviewing and/or writing letters, decorating care package boxes.  

This is our Annual Student of the Year event.  If you're in town, please join in the celebration as we reveal and recognize top winners selected from the quality  of their essays.  

President John is sharing this opportunity for Phoenix West Rotary members to support the Rotary Clubs of Surprise and Sun City West in their big fundraising event to raise funds for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library which delivers free books each month to children up to age 5.  Club members can volunteer starting at 2PM or can just support the fundraising event by buying tickets and attending.  Volunteers are asked to also buy tickets to help support the charity.  Please register individaully at the link below:

We are dark for our regular meeting as we usually are on  fifth Thursdays, but don't miss the club Happy Hour starting at 5PM at MT Barrel--9784 W. Northern Avenue Ste. 1205 located inside Park West (Northern and the 101.)  

Rick and Lisa have checked out what they call "this wonderful little hide away" and recommend it highly.  They report that MT Barrel has a huge selection of wines where you can sample 1oz. or more, craft beers and numerous non-alcoholic special drinks.  They also report that the food looks amazing and they can accommodate a large group.  This is a great event to enjoy each other's company AND recruit potential members. Invite friends, family AND potential Rotarians.   Wear your Rotary t-shirt !! .  .

Regular board meeting at 11AM...all members are always welcome.  

Phoenix Police Chief Matthew Giordano will speak to us about Police Department initatives and hold a Q & A session. 

This would be a good meeting to invite friends, family and potential Rotarians and at the same time learn more about the Phoenix PD.

Our speaker will be Kent Volkmer from Researach for Life regarding no cost cremation program.  

This will be the date of the annual "changing of the guard" at Christo's on 7th Street.  It is a time to recognize this year's leaders and recap the year and introduce the board for the 2026-27 Rotary year.  

We need to get a head count in order to reserve the room.  Please respond asap if you are going to be in town and will be attending the event.  This is always a good event to invite your significant other.  More details to follow but I believe the club covers the meal cost for members; David will bill members for their guests.

This is a last call to attend the Changing of the Guard luncheon on June 18.   Please sign up asap if you have not already done so so that David can order the correct amount of food.

Cory Alexander is the Food Service Director for Osborn Elementary School District speaking on the topic of "Feeding the hungry, starving masses in the Osborn District."

Note:  Our speaker is arriving at 11:30 so if you can possibly arrive by 11:30 that would be great so he isn't greeted by an empty room.   Also, if you are unable to participate in the 7/16 DIAD, feel free to bring supplies for the Back Pack program as well as canned and other unperishable food for the District's Ton of Food campaign to this meeting.  Otherwise, bring those things on the 16th.  Thanks.     

We will meet at DUET and assist with sorting supplies and assembling backpacks as part of DUET's Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.

ALSO--Support the District's TON OF FOOD project by bringing canned goods and other non perishible items.  Best we load these items into Susan's vehicle  vehicle after the event.  

Our previously scheduled speaker on Fund Raising cancelled. 

Eva has scheduled Andrew Knight with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, to speak to us regading Preventing Scams.  Sadly, always a timely topic. 

As you know this will be our last meeting at DUET--we're dark July 30, so watch for details on where our August 6 meeting will be.  .

In keeping with our new scheduling for the year to include three meetings per month, we will be dark on July 30.    Our next meeting will be September 3.  

NOTE:  We are looking for a new pemanent home now that DUET is merging with AllThrive365.  Our next four regular meetings will be held at Beatitudes Campus of Care at 1610 W. Glendale Avenue:

Our speaker will be Lauren Pena from the Dairy Council.

This meeting, and the remaining three regular meetings in August & September, will be held at the Beatitudes Campus--1610 W. Glendale Avenue.

Important:  For all the meetings at the Beatitudes Campus, it is critical that you respond regarding your attendance by 10am on Tuesday.  Our lunch will be a sit-down/served lunch so an accurate count is critical.  Thanks for your help.

In preparation for our October DIAD which will involve donating and reading a book-- I VOTED; Making a Choice Makes a Difference--to all 16 third grade classrooms in the Osborn School District, Thursday's meeting will be devoted to discussing plans for the event, a demonstration of how to read an informational book to children, and reviewing a sample draft lesson plan for the event so that there is consistency from classroom to classroom.  I hope you will be able to attend and will find the meeting worthwhile. You new grandparents out there may find the information useful when reading to your new grandbabies!  Visits to classes will take place the week of October 12 so please highlight that week on your calendar.  Final details are not yet available.  

I hope to see you on Thursday!  Honorary members are encouraged to attend.

We will meet on Thursday, August 27, at Kong and Associates at 5300 N. Central Avenue, the west side of Central between Missouri and Camelback.  Take the hall to the left as you enter the building.  The conference room is on the right hand side of the hall.  David will take care of catering so please to sign up by Tuesday 10AM so we order sufficient food.     

September is Rotary Basic Education and Literacy month.  Our speaker will be Aubree Potter Davis, Chief Officer of Learning & Equity for the Osborn School District.  She will talk about basic literacy and also the special, long-standing KidsRead program that puts books in the hands of third graders for their home libraries.   Alan will be acting president for September and October.  

Location--Beatitudes Campus -  1610 W. Glendale Avenue.  Park to the right of the drive; enter the main entrance to the right of the drive.  Sign in at the front desk.  You will be directed to the meeting room.
